RAP in Europe Meeting: Advancing Road Infrastructure Safety towards 2030
On 25 and 26 September, a meeting of iRAP partners in Europe has been held in Windsor, UK, to share best practices and strategies to achieve ambitious national, European and global road safety targets. Representatives of the Bulgarian Road Safety Industry Association also took part in the two-day event.
The event, jointly organised by the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) and the UK RAP, led by the Road Safety Foundation (RSF), focused on the management, prioritisation, design and funding of safe road infrastructure improvements in both rural and urban contexts.
In the face of increasingly challenging fiscal economic conditions, long-term funding strategies and ways in which we can contribute to sustainable transportation and public health priorities were explored.
The program included interactive panel sessions, technical sessions, and rapid share discussions on the following topics:
- Safe and Sustainable Urban Mobility
- Sharing the latest news from the YEA app and iRAP pedestrian model, the PHOEBE and ELABORATOR projects, CycleRAP, ViDA's new improvements to counter urban incidents and the star rating of schools in action in Europe.
- National Road Authorities: Using iRAP to inform, prioritise and develop effective programmes
- Funding safer roads
- Looking to the future and new developments
- Innovations in iRAP and looking to the horizon, new and improved tools (star rating of projects and road review tool) and iRAP in the planning process
- Technical sessions on the Route Review and Crash Risk Mapping tool
