Final Declaration from the 10th Anniversary Conference "Safe Infrastructure" on the topic "Vision Zero - Zero Road Traffic Ac

On September 19-20, 2024, in Plovdiv, at the Grand Hotel Plovdiv, the Bulgarian Road Safety Industry Association initiated and organized the 10th Annual "Safe Infrastructure" Conference, marking its jubilee year. The theme of the conference was "Vision Zero – Zero Road Traffic Accident." Over the years, this event has become a platform for mutual cooperation and information exchange between government institutions, local authorities, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the general public. The conference attracted over 350 participants, including representatives and leaders from the state administration, delegates, experts, scientific researchers, road safety auditors, and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

Official guests of the forum included Lubomir Yosifov, Deputy Minister of the Interior; Engineer Yordan Valchev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA); Malina Krumova, Chairperson of the State Agency for Road Safety (SARS); Engineer Zhivko Nedev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber (BCC); and Christoph Nicodem, Director General of the European Union Road Federation (ERF). Among the participants were also Engineer Tosho Pashov, Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv responsible for "Construction, Investments, and Municipal Property"; Chief Inspector Yordan Milushev from the Traffic Police Department of the General Directorate of National Police; Associate Professor Dr. Architect Gichka Kutova, Rector of the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy; representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the business sector, professional and non-governmental organizations, and road safety experts.

Renowned specialists in the field of traffic safety presented 13 reports, sharing a wealth of positive experience, results from scientific research, and concrete solutions to improve the quality of various elements of the road transport system, as well as the interactions between them.

As a result of the discussions, questions raised, and reviewed activities aimed at ensuring safety, along with updates on European road signage standards, and driven by the right of every individual to benefit from the highest attainable standard of health in road traffic, while bearing shared responsibility for safe behavior, the participants unanimously adopted a Final Declaration. This document outlines key priorities encouraging institutions to focus on building a safe road infrastructure and reducing the risks of road traffic accidents.
